One of the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . That time, we were analyzing an American regulation; today’s detail also happens to adorn the flanks of vehicles, albeit its presence is far more important in Europe than in the United States. The item in question is the turn signal repeater.
Clarification for those who are interested
Increasingly these repeaters are appearing on wing mirrors to make parts specificity easier among different markets, or something like that. US V50s have side indicators come to think of it, so I guess putting them on the mirror just improves visibility.
So what do you think Oppo?
What are the best/worst/most distinctively styled side turn signal repeaters in the automotive world?

I want to add side indicators to my mazda5. Earlier years came with them it seems.

I think the Mercedes indicators are pretty distinctive.

I like how the Z4 has the indicators behind the badge on the side.

Except they use basically the same ones on everything but the G wagon.

My friend has a 1997 Acura EL (Not my friends, but beige one pictured above).
The orange on the headlights isn’t the turn signals, it has turn signals on the bottom. I always found that odd.

You’d be right! Especially on this Euro-spec model...

You mean semaphores?

Indeed, it’s an excellent incorporation and it’s even artsy enough to be labelled as a fender garnish in addition to a side indicator repeater...

My 4Runner is the same.

The 570S also wears the indicator repeat very neatly.

Ignore the horrid orange, but the side markers on the Vue were integrated into the side vent to sort-of split the vent in two. You really couldn't tell it was a marker either until you were right up on it.
It was really distinctive at night because GM decided they needed to be brighter than the sun itself. I can’t tell you how many times I used that blinker to spot my mom’s car pulling in somewhere.

Very. It’s like the new Zetros which has indicators where you’d expect headlamps.

Haha, that’s what we call an unprecedented benefit! Well, not for those unlucky enough to pull alongside a Vue...
Rental spec Captivas are less distinctive, but still carry over that integration.

Well...
At least they are much better than their other attempts at making turn signals in mirrors:

Tesla did it too:

The big Captiva also had it there, later replaced by a fake vent when they switched to the turn signal mirrors:

In the U.K. they were also called trafficators.

How very British of you.

I always find these in-mirror repeaters to be pretty slick. I think this may have been GM that started this with their trucks around the turn of the century.

Why thank you sir.

Agreed, I saw a Sienna with them the other day and it really seems to help, especially given that modern Siennas are basically fifteen feet of metal and glass backed by a surprisingly quick V6 which has a tendency to jerk about based on the inputs of the distracted mother at the wheel...

That’s another American peculiarity: orange parking/sidelights.

Classy as fuck

Here’s an obvious example, but it’s arguably well integrated.
I like how it changes dependent on trim level too.
Also this Ford Mondeo has the turn signals integrated into the side trim.
It looks surprisingly good, shame people often overlook the car.

The integrated ones in the side of the Mclarens are clever

Indeed, the Mini managed to do it relatively well since that side embellishment looks rather natural.
I laughed at the Mondeo comment but you do have to admit that the X-Type was indeed a better looking Mondeo if not as elegant of a Jag.
That generation V70 also integrated them into the side molding, interesting that they shared that cue with the Jagdeos...

Yep, not going to lie there. I’d take an X-Type over a Mondeo any day. Same goes with a Saab 9-3, Volvo V50 etc. The fix a lot of my problems with the Mondeo/Vectra/Focus anyway, so I like them. No 3-series, but not bad cars at all (plus I love the Saab’s styling too),
As for the V70, I guess the Volvos shared that cue since all the companies were under Ford ownership at the time.

I found another interesting one, though I’m unsure if they’re indicators or reflectors.
Double trim-based ones on the Subaru R2! I love it.
